I would like to thank John of Beaver Oregon for submitting the following question. What type of canning jars do you use for pickling? When I'm making watermelon rind pickles or preserves, I use Ball brand regular one pint mason canning jars. In situations where I will likely give away a lot of watermelon pickles, I will generally use smaller five ounce jars, so that I have enough rind pickles to go around. The great thing about canning jars, is they are available just about anywhere you shop. If in the off chance you are unable to find some locally, or if you don't have time to shop for them, then simply order them online. You can order cases of twelve jars over the internet, and they are extremely cheap. I have used Ball brand for years, as they are made from thick quality glass, and the lids are nice and solid. If you are searching for solid canning jars, then Ball is a great brand to try out.
